Co-Founders of The Blue Lagoon Foundation | Jamaica
Brief info
Kevin and Heather Reid are active philanthropists focused on youth education. The couple co-founded The Blue Lagoon Foundation, an organization driven to continuously raise awareness and sponsor programs designed to positively impact the lives of children.
As a young public-school student growing up in Jamaica, Kevin had the privilege of living with his grandfather, Clevens “Pops” Stuart. Pops would consistently challenge Kevin at the dinner table, during car drives, or at any point out of school when given the opportunity. Those challenges included topics such as times tables, diction, and science, interspersed with frequent questions about how common household products worked. He stimulated Kevin’s learning by engaging him frequently on topics that piqued his interest.
It wasn’t until decades later that Kevin realized what a tremendous opportunity he had, and the influence his grandfather had in shaping his life. His father had also been a Jamaican student who was given the opportunity to attend Howard University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Over the years the couple funded education programs across Jamaica and the United States ranging from Elementary School to Colleges. In 2020 Heather and Kevin created “The League”, an after-school STEM initiative aimed at motivating young students to pursue STEM pathways. After incubating the program for several years, they realized its potential far exceeded the reach of their private foundation.
The academic outcomes of The League inspired them to establish a public charity whose mission is to empower one million students from under-resourced communities to be the next generation of STEM leaders. They named the organization after Kevin’s grandfather Clevens Levi Stuart, who received an Order of Distinction by the Jamaican Government in recognition of his contribution to education. Heather and Kevin’s families placed significant value on becoming lifelong learners and they are committed to paying that forward. The CL Stuart Institute has already impacted over a thousand children, and it is just getting started.
Heather and Kevin both earned technical undergraduate degrees from Florida International University, with Kevin also attending graduate school at the University of Miami where he earned an MBA. Heather worked for several years as a systems analyst in international private banking, choosing to put her career on hold after giving birth to their child.
Kevin became a technology entrepreneur, developing technology companies that deliver efficiency, enable innovation and drive superior financial results for enterprises worldwide. He is a founding partner of the Blue Lagoon Companies, where he incubates, advises and invests in progressive technology companies that are disrupting and redefining their industries. Kevin’s prior patents and innovations have driven several successful ventures. He has been recognized by Black Enterprise, Intel Capital and Red Herring. Kevin has also spoken at technology events hosted by industry leaders such as Goldman Sachs, Dell Technologies, VMware and SAP.
