George S. Willie

George S. Willie is a certified public accountant and managing partner of Bert Smith & Company, a public accounting and management consultancy firm in Washington D.C. He has over 40 years of experience in auditing various sectors, such as healthcare, government, and not-for-profit entities. He is extremely passionate about the accounting profession and dedicated to the diversity of the profession. Through his efforts and impactful work, The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) announced the establishment of the George S. Willie Ethnically Diverse Student Scholarship and Internship program. He has also established The George S. Willie Scholarship Fund in 2009 by the Kogod School of Business - American University.

Mr. Willie has served on numerous boards and committees related to finance, auditing, and accounting issues, such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Yellow Book Advisory council of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), Advisory Council on Government Auditing Standards, and the Howard University School of Business Board of Visitors. He has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to the accounting profession and the community, such as the Distinguished Alumni Award from Howard University and the Top Most Influential Practitioners by the CPA Magazine. He is also the founder of the George S. Willie Centre in Kingston, Jamaica, which aims to provide accounting and business information to Jamaica and the Caribbean through business education, training, research, and consultancy services to individuals, organizations, and institutions in the region. The centre also seeks to promote the accounting profession and foster collaboration among accounting practitioners, educators, regulators, and stakeholders in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
George and his wife Doreen reside in Maryland. Their daughter Georgia is a practicing cardiologist and also lives in Maryland.
